As a Utility Surveyor, you will be responsible for conducting surveys to identify and map the underground utilities, such as water, gas, electricity, telecommunications, and drainage systems. Your work is crucial in ensuring the safety and efficiency of construction projects, preventing accidental utility damages, and facilitating informed decision-making during the planning and design stages.
What You'll Do
- Use specialized equipment and techniques to accurately locate and mark the positions of underground utilities within designated construction areas or project sites
- Record detailed data and measurements of the identified utilities, creating precise and comprehensive utility maps and reports
- Conduct on-site investigations to assess potential utility conflicts, overlaps, and obstructions, providing valuable insights to project managers and engineering teams
- Work closely with construction teams, project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure the accurate integration of utility data into project plans and designs
- Access and review existing utility records, blueprints, and documentation to supplement survey data and enhance the overall accuracy of the utility mapping
- Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines during surveys, ensuring the well-being of yourself and others on-site
- Analyze complex situations related to utility placement and propose innovative solutions to overcome challenges and reduce the potential for utility conflicts
- Properly maintain and calibrate surveying equipment to ensure its accuracy and reliability
- Stay up-to-date with local, state, and federal regulations pertaining to utility mapping and ensure that surveying activities align with all applicable standards
- Seek opportunities to enhance surveying processes and methodologies, aiming for increased efficiency and accuracy in utility identification
- Perform other responsibilities as requested by leadership
What You'll Have
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Geomatics, Surveying, or a related field, relevant certifications or licenses may be required
- Experience in utility surveying or land surveying is required
- Experience using surveying equipment such as ground-penetrating radar (GPR), electromagnetic locators, and global positioning systems (GPS)
- Familiarity with computer-aided design (CAD) software is beneficial
- Excellent attention to detail to ensure precise mapping and data collection
- Strong problem-solving abilities to interpret complex utility layouts and optimize surveying processes

Work Environment
- Work sites are outdoors in potentially extreme weather conditions
- All worksite safety instructions are written and spoken in English; must be fluent in English
- Work includes prolonged and repeated: lifting (including overhead, up to 50lbs); standing; climbing; kneeling; reaching and feeling; crouching and crawling
- Work is performed within the “red zone” of heavy equipment
- Working safely requires quick/accurate hand-eye coordination
Legal Stuff

- Valid driver’s license with clean driving record is preferred
