Apprentice Linemen perform varying electrical construction work including maintaining poles, power lines, auxiliary facilities and equipment for the distribution of electricity under direct supervision. You will complete classroom and hands-on training to prepare for full Lineman duties and responsibilities. Apprenticeship levels progress upwards (from I to VII) toward a fully independent Lineman.

 

Crews will work throughout the state of Georgia.

 

CDL or CDL permit REQUIRED.

Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, and repair electrical distribution and transmission systems
  • String wire conductors and cables
  • Open switches or attach grounding devices to remove electrical hazards
  • Climb poles or use truck-mounted buckets to access equipment
  • Place insulating or fireproofing materials over conductors and joints
  • Identify defective equipment used in transmission & distribution work
  • Inspect and test power lines and auxiliary equipment
  • Operate heavy equipment such as track hoes, backhoes, digger derricks, lo-drill, air drill, forklift, cranes, skid steers, line pullers and line tensioners
  • Locate underground services, such as pipes or wires
  • Adhere to safety practices and procedures
  • Right of Way clearing and reclamation
  • Read and interpret plans, instructions, and specifications to determine work activities
  • Other duties as requested by leadership

Education, Skills, Experience Needed

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in the electrical services industry required
  • CDL class A license preferred; must acquire CDL beginners permit within 60 days
  • Possession of climbing tools preferred
  • Proficiency in climbing and performing top pole rescues
  • Ability to read and understand minimum approach distances
  • Desire to learn and commitment to doing quality work while putting safety first

Working Environment

  • Work sites are outdoors in potentially extreme weather conditions
  • All worksite safety instructions are written and spoken in English; must be fluent in English
  • Work includes prolonged and repeated: lifting (including overhead, up to 50lbs); standing; climbing; kneeling; reaching and feeling; crouching and crawling
  • Work is performed within the “red zone” of heavy equipment
  • Working safely requires quick/accurate hand-eye coordination and the ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner

Requirements

  • Pass pre-employment, random, post-accident, and reasonable suspicion drug screens
  • Provide valid US work authorization documents for E-Verify
  • Satisfactory results of pre-employment background check results
  • Valid driver’s license with clean driving record is required
  • Pre-employment medical fit-for-duty test; hold/obtain DOT medical card
