At Linetec, our Class B Lineman - Transmission performs semi-skilled labor in the construction, maintenance and repair of electrical transmission systems. You will be asked to work at various locations based on business need and may be required to travel to other states depending on customer demands.


Hiring crews in North Carolina and Florida. 


CDL strongly preferred or ability to acquire CDL permit within 60 days of hire.

  • Perform new construction, maintenance and repair work on energized and de-energized transmission lines
  • Frequently work around energized high voltage systems requiring skill and care to protect the lives of themselves and others
  • Troubleshoot problems on transmission systems
  • Perform semi-skilled labor such as stringing overhead wire, setting poles and anchors, and identifying wire sizes
  • Check and monitor the voltage on transformers 
  • Identify proper line clearances 
  • Change pole framing and insulators from hooks or bucket while working around energized lines
  • Maintain company vehicles, equipment and tools in good working order
  • Operate a sideloader, bucket, digger derrick, and wire tension equipment safely and efficiently 
  • Perform basic bucket rescues and escapes as needed
  • Effectively conduct pre-job or tailgate briefings
  • Install and remove mechanical jumpers
  • Other duties as requested by leadership  

Education, Skills, Experience Needed

  • High School diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years’ recent experience in the Electrical Transmission industry
  • Class A permit required and must acquire CDL A license within 60 days of hire
  • Must have a working knowledge of induced voltage, grounding procedures, equipment set-up, phasing sticks, minimum approach distance, flag and tag procedures and clipping of transmission conductors
  • Must be able to climb different types of structures (wood, steel, etc.) and possess the necessary tools to do so
  • Must be proficient in pole and tower climbing and heavy lifting and rigging
  • Ability to obtain a one shot on a recloser
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints and work orders
  • Ability to properly inspect rubber goods and PPE
  • Ability to identify transmission primary and secondary voltage on a circuit
  • Ability to travel long distances on short notice and work for extended periods
  • Must be self-motivated, team-oriented and customer oriented
  • Must be able to follow Company safety rules and all other Company policies

Working Environment

  • Work sites are outdoors in potentially extreme weather conditions
  • All worksite safety instructions are written and spoken in English; must be fluent in English
  • Work includes prolonged and repeated: lifting (including overhead, up to 50lbs); standing; climbing; kneeling; reaching and feeling; crouching and crawling
  • Work is performed within the “red zone” of heavy equipment
  • Working safely requires quick/accurate hand-eye coordination and the ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner


  • Pass pre-employment, random, post-accident, and reasonable suspicion drug screens
  • Provide valid US work authorization documents for E-Verify
  • Satisfactory results of pre-employment background check results
  • Valid driver’s license with clean driving record is required
  • Pre-employment medical fit-for-duty test; hold/obtain DOT medical card
