Who We Are
At NPL, we build and maintain the natural gas infrastructure that keeps communities running. We are actively seeking an experienced Plumber with natural gas experience to support our growing operations in Hampton, VA.
While this role includes natural gas relight and service work, it is first and foremost a plumbing position, requiring strong technical expertise in gas piping systems, permits, and code compliance.
Sign On Bonus Eligible: $1,000 Sign-On
- $500 paid after 90 days of active employment
- $500 paid after 6 months of active employment
What You'll Do
Plumber (Primary Role)
This role performs master-level plumbing work on underground and in-home natural gas pipelines, supporting construction and service projects that demand the highest standards of safety, quality, and customer service.
Responsibilities:
- Examine, test, and verify gas piping systems for safety and code compliance
- Perform natural gas relights, hot changes, and meter set relocations
- Apply for and pull plumbing permits; review plans and permits
- Communicate directly with customers regarding work scope and safety
- Join piping using fusion, electrofusion, or mechanical coupling methods
- Perform and document QA tests and required measurements
- Support additional tasks as directed by leadership
Natural Gas Relight & Service (Supporting Function)
As part of the plumbing role, you will also support relight and service activities to ensure safe and reliable gas service.
Responsibilities include:
- Relight residential natural gas services and perform hot changes
- Repair, maintain, install, and troubleshoot natural gas systems
- Complete work orders and required documentation
- Maintain tools, equipment, and assigned vehicles
- Attend safety meetings and maintain required Operator Qualifications
What You'll Have
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Minimum: 6+ months hands-on experience in the natural gas distribution field
- Preferred: 2–4 years of plumbing experience in natural gas, meter sets, and/or gas appliances

Work Environment
- Work sites are outdoors in potentially extreme weather conditions
- All worksite safety instructions are written and spoken in English; must be fluent in English
- Work includes prolonged and repeated: lifting (including overhead, up to 50lbs); standing; climbing; kneeling; reaching and feeling; crouching and crawling
- Flexibility to work various schedules and stay late when necessary with little or no notice
- Work is performed within the “red zone” of heavy equipment
- Working safely requires quick/accurate hand-eye coordination and the ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner
